U8's Match Reports
As yet no match report for the GGFC v Wigan Ath game.

12.02.11
GGFC v Woodbank (Hawkley Hall)
The rain held off Saturday unlike last week in Bury, the girls were very eager to play as they always are, the captain of Golborne was HB, the game started with HS in goals and HD & KB in defence unfortunately there were three goals scored by woodbank numbers 15, 16 & 9 in the 1st 10 mins to bring them up to three nil, (I think the ten o'clock kick off could have been a little early for some), but the goal difference didn't phase golborne girls and they pulled themselves together and battled on, DB scored the 1st goal closely followed by HD, just before the half time whistle DB scored another to bring the half time score to 3 all, even with an half time pep talk from me telling the girls that having fun was the most important thing, the girls entered into the second half knowing they wanted to win the game, I made a change to the goalkeeper in the second half as HS was not feeling too well,  the replacement goalie HB was fantastic in goals with some great kicks, she was not afraid to take control of the defenders and the goal area, DB quickly scored another goal to give her an hatrick for this game followed by her sister PB who scored not only the 5th goal for golborne but her 1st goal ever as a golborne player, unfortunately HB miss kicked one of her goal kicks which gave woodbanks No2 a chance to score their 4th goal, with only 8 minutes left in the game it was a very nervous time for all  who had seen all the girls battle on so much throughout the game.

The game finished final score 5 - 4 to golborne,  every player played their part in getting this final result and the game was an absolute  pleasure to watch, it was a far cry from the game that was played the week before with the players taking full control of the game  and the positions they were given.

Player of the match was a tough one as all the players were fantastic however some deserved special recognition for the following

KB Defending - an absolute star who was not afraid to stop the opposition getting near the goals with the ball no matter how big they were.
HD Defending - for finding the right positioning when it mattered and being able to get the ball up the field and also being ready and able to return to defending when it was needed.
HB - fantastic in goals making the position her own.
DB - Great positioning, persistence and control  she managed to score the hatrick she more than deserved, I think Rooney was the only football player of that day who outshone her, well deserved player of the match.

Although the other girls are not mentioned individually they all played a very important part in the game and made me and their parents very proud. well done girls.
Report by Paul Walsh

05.02.11
Woodbank v GGFC (Played at Bury)
T' was a damp day up at Bury......"drizzle wettin' you thru tut skin" as they say in these parts.
But Pauls spirits where high with his newly formed U8 team of fighters.
For most of them it was their first ever game as a team, but true to spirit they battled on and on to finish a game with pride.
Paul didn't know what to expect, being the first game, and so just wanted them to go out and enjoy themselves whilst he assessed capabilities and the positions that he thought they played best in.
It was end to end stuff with both teams getting good chances on the break.
KB in goal, had the Gods looking down on her.....what a tremendous time she had in goal....some saves, although comical where brilliant and others that she missed, hit the post!!
This game really has set up expectations for the return leg at Hawkley Hall.
Final Score.....although most lost count.....Woodbank 12 - 6 GGFC.
Overall, Paul was delighted with the game...the result not mattering at this moment.
Player of match for effort was divided between D,P & S (The Triplets) ...very well done.

Horwich Grasshoppers St Marys v GGFC
This was the U8's first ever game together.
Coach Paul commented that concidering GGFC were players short for the game and had to call on the help of the other team to balance numbers up, the team played really, really well!
Although the result went against GGFC in the end,the girls should be proud of themselves on the way they played the game.
PW shon in defence battling for every ball that came her way. Her willingness to win the ball winning her "Player of Match" for Golborne.
Final score may have been a littlemore than expected but over all an excellent performance from the U8's
