Game 6:Southport v GGFC
What should have been a great game turned out not to be. The battle to see who would be at the bottom of the league.
Disaster struck 10 mins into the game when Olivia slipped on the ball and put her hand out as she fell and broke both bones in her lower arm and had to be taken to hospital. This played allot on the girls minds.
The other team kept hold of the ball very well and passed the ball well and threw numbers forward in there attack.GGFC were just to slow at passing and trying to line themselves up to much at taking shots taking too much time and to many touches on the ball resulting in the other team getting back and tackling us most of the time Ths resulted in us loosing 4-0.
If GGFC could just put everything together and play how they do in training, then they would be a team to be reckoned with, but for some reason GGFC seem not to get as stuck in as much in league games.
Hope Olivia gets on the road to recovery soon. All the very best from all at the club.
Result 4-0
Game 5: 31.10.10 Crosby Stuart v GGFC
GGFC had a player short again and no subs so the girls had to play there hearts out for the full hour with only the half time break for a rest. Some of our newer players are showing that they are going to be key players in the team and are showing great promise for the future. The first half started a bit slow and the other team took advantage of the spare player well getting numbers into the box. The second half was better as the girls started passing more and tackling more and when GGFC made a break they put pressure on the other team.... but could not find the net. This game and the previous game has highlighted the areas that the girls need to work on in training. The game ended in a loss for us at 5-0 man of the match was Danielle who had a great game in defence. |
Game 4:17.10.10 Birkdale 5 v 2 GGFCThis match was going to be a hard game against the team at the top of the league but the girls played there hearts out and had a fantastic result. The game ended with a 5-2 defeat but this was as good as a win for us scoreing our first 2 goals. It gave us a great boost after our first goal the girls upped the tempo and scored a second and finished the game on a high. Well done girls for a great game.Goal scorers were MC and Olivia and NC got man of the match for her fantastic efforts in goal even getting injured and carrying on.
Cup Round 1: 10.10.10 Wigan Athletic 10 v 0 GGFC
GGFC knew that Wigan Ath was not going to be an easy game and the girls were going to have their work cut out to get a good result.
GGFC got off to a good start with the girls playing well, passing the ball, closing players down and getting stuck in.
Then there was a break down in communication. Wigan had a shot which NC saved by pushing the ball away. Wigan took a second shot which she saved again, again pushing the ball away.Wigan had a 3rd shot and eventually scoreing. This scenario happened several times with the defence not clearing the ball and putting NC under unnesessary pressure. Wigan with 3 ex-GGFC team mates playing for them. Two of them scored two goals each!!
GGFC heads started to drop and Wigan just kept attacking and scoreing.
If only GGFC could have kept playing the way they started it would have been a great game.
In the end Wigan proved to be the fitter team with lots of experienced players and the game was lost 10 - 0.
It seems that 10 was an unlucky number on 10.10.2010.
Game 3:Northfield 5 v 0 GGFC
The game got off to a late start and the girls, a player short, were facing a team that had been playing together for years. The game got off to a great start and by H/T GGFC were losing by just one goal and holding there own.
In the second half GGFC started to get tired as they where playing with a player down. Northfield had surplus subs and were putting three subs on and three off at a time and so had rested players to keep attacking.
GGFC tried right to the end with NC even saving a penalty!!!
Final score was 5-0 at the end of the day but 10/10 for GGFC's efforts and commitment against a much more experienced team.
GGFC also had only two players who have played in a league before but for the others, this was a big learning experience.
John stated that he can build on the good progress that his team is making and looks forward to working with the girls in training and watching them get better and better as the season progresses.
