End of Season Friendly
15.05.11
Mill Hill v GGFC
A 10am KO made this an early morning get up for the Golborne team.
But what a turn out it was.
It was reported that 18 players turned out for Golborne and a hugh headache for Chloe.
It was a game that gave Chloe the chance to see the debutants in action in preparation for next season.
Although the game went away from Golborne, they where seen as unlucky at times.
Final Score 3-0 to Mill Hill which gave them with the double over us this season.
Player of Match - Jess Earlam for some outstanding defending.

GGFC v Astley & Tyldsley
L.S.V
This match was set up last minute and a big thank you goes out to Chloe for her efforts and A & T for accepting at late notice.
The match was a fairly even encounter between these two teams.
Chances at both ends which came to nothing.
The half time score remaining 0-0.
The second half provided GGFC with TWO EY goals and a win seemed comfortable.
A & T scored late in the half to give them some hope in leveling the scores but this was little to late and Golborne held on to win the game.
Final Score GGFC 2 - 1 Astley & Tyldsley
Player of match awarded to JC
Altrincham Tournament
Venue: Altrincham Football Club
Date:02.05.11
Chloe and Ian had to choose ten players for this tournament.
The squad consisted of JW,MS,CA,PT,MD,JC,JR,RG,HC and AL
It was a squad of players from the current U10 squad but unfortunatly had to be entered in the U11 catagory due to no spaces left from the U10 catagory.
Their spirits where high on the back of a good win the day before.
GGFC where drawn in the league stages with Alty Chicks, Heyside Angels, Vulcan Wings Urmston Tigers and Leigh Genesis.
Games where just 8 minutes long with no half times, with semi-finals and finals being 10 minutes long with half times.
Unfortunatly GGFC didn't see there way to the latter stages of the competition.
GGFC's first game finished with a 2-0 defeat and it was evident from this point that the girls where going to struggle with the height and age difference between them and the other teams.
We can not take away though, the effort that GGFC put in throughout the afternoon.....and for this, they should be very proud of themselves.
There where Golborne moments at times which came to nothing....... but 100% effort at all times for effort.
The last game of the day was the pairing of Golborne and our local team and rival, Leigh Genesis.
This was the game that we needed to get a result from at all costs.....and this was probably the case for Leigh Genesis aswell!
Again, GGFC gave their all and kept there first clean sheet of the afternoon....unfortunatly, Leigh Genesis also kept a clean sheet and the game ended at 0-0.
GGFC can take experience from today on to the next Tournament in June which they will be playing in there own age catagory and hopefully this will put them in good stead to take them into the latter stages of the competition......watch this space!

Game 21: 01.05.11
Aspull Lionesses v GGFC
Match result 2 - 3
Attendance: MD,HC,MS,JR,RG,EW,AL,PT
The Lionesses got the game off to a great start in this epic battle between these two teams.
Aspull took an early lead after some poor defending from GGFC.....1-0 to Aspull.
The game developed into some good end to end stuff and GGFC was unlucky not to equalise with a good exchange of passes from HC and AL.
GGFC's persistance eventually did pay off when JR provided a perfect pass onto AL who thumped a long range shot over the keeper and into the top corner of the goals....1-1.
RG was the keeper for the first half and troubled the Aspull defence with some long range kicks, only for Aspull to cope well with the pressure that this provided.
In one instance, an opportunity arose for HC to finish off a good move, only to find that on this occasion, the ball would not sit right for the shot.....agonizing for the Golborne contingency on the touchline to see the chance squandered.
Aspull battled hard to regain the lead, and their efforts where eventually rewarded when they earned a free kick from a foul by AL.
The free kick was lauched into the Golborne box and a headed effort from MS went straight to an Aspull player who made no mistake and sweetly hit it into the top right of the goal....2-1.
The first half came to an end Apull leading 2-1.
The second half saw MD taking place of RG in goal and continued to play her part in dealing with Aspull pressure....MS as ever working hard in defence to clear any Aspull attacks.
RG took her place up front with AL and linked up well.
In one moment of brilliance, RG almost broke the Aspull goals when one of her shots, after breaking through the defence, rattled the post.....and eventually from the goalmouth scramble that this caused, AL poked home her second goal of the game to level the scores at 2-2.
It was heart stopping stuff as both teams went for that one goal that would win them the game.
Time was ticking and with just minutes to go,JR on one of her runs on the wing, provided a cross to RG..... RG made no mistake scored what proved to be the winning goal and one well deserved.
It was a great performance from all the team to come back twice from a goal down, to eventually win....well done to you all.
Final Score Aspull Lionesses 2 - 3 GGFC
Player of match awarded to HC
Game 20: 19.03.11
GGFC v Mill Hill
Match Result 1-2
This was not really a game that was worth writing home about with very few chances for both teams in the first half.
The H/T score ending 0-0
The second half, came more alive with Mil Hill getting the opener after 10mins of the half.
AL equalised shortly after, running onto a JW goal kick that deflected of a midfield player.
GGFC where unlucky to conceed a 2nd after a goal mouth scramble saw the ball just crossing the line before JW could clear it.
JW had a terrific game with some great saves that kept Golborne in it.
And last but no means least EW earned herself joint player of match for her great efforts in defence.
Player of match - JW & EW
Final score 1-2
Game 19: 13.03.11
Cherrybrook v GGFC
Match Result 4-4
Golborne all at sea in this close fought game.
Conceeding an early goal after just 20 seconds and seeing two more go in to be 3-0 down.
RG restored a bit of pride in the team by pulling a goal back just before H/T.
3-1 H/T
The second half saw as many goals but this time the boots where on the other foot.
Cherrybrook scored just the one goal in the second half but it was AL who stole the 2nd half show with a hat-trick to level the scores at 4-4
Player of match AL
F/T 4-4
Thanks to Sue for her match report...great job!
Game 18: 06.03.11
Vulcan v GGFC
Match result 0-0
No match report but seeing that GGFC kept a clean sheet for the third time in four games proves that they are showing good signs in defending and goal keeping.
Vulcan are no pushovers so the team worked really hard in achieving this result.
Well done to you all.
Game 17: 19.02.11
GGFC v Astley & Tyldsley
Expectations where high from the the GGFC spectators prior to the game.
Everyone with the opinion that since the last meeting between these two teams, GGFC have come on leaps and bounds.
In attendance where JW,MS,JE,Emily,JC,MD,EB,HD,HC,EY,AL
Chloe selected a strong selection for the kick off and this proved to be hard to handle for the Astley & Tyldsley side.
GGFC piled some pressure in the opening 10 minutes but failed to capitalise on the pressure.
A & T only got their first chance on goal at the 10 minute mark.
JC got a chance to shoot at goal but missed the chance to go 1-0 up.
Then....out of the blue, against the run of play, from some goal mouth confusion, Astley & Tyldsley went 1-0 up.
Shortly after, EY capitalised on a goal keeper miss kick to level the scores at 1-1.
EB managed to get a shot on goal, again showing great effort throughout the game.
Chloe made a few changes mid way through the first half that in the opinion of the spectators, changed the game.
Off went HC,JC,EY and AL and on come Emily, HD, MD and EB.
Astley & Tyldsley had a great corner that caught JW off guard. The kick coming straight at her that was not covered on the post by a defender which she could not hold....rechoshaed off her, hit the post and went in.....2-1 to A&T.
Just before half time, A&T made it 3-1.
Chloe made changes for the second half.
EY scored her second goal with another miss kick from the A&T keeper.....3-2 to A&T.
JC made some good tackling in mid field and taking the ball forward to shoot at goal on a number of occasions.
Golborne seemed today to not be able to cope with getting the ball out of the goal area which caused endless problems which they couldn't afford to do against such a goal hungry side.
JE used her height to make a goal line clearance with a header when MS 's clearance went astray towards goal.
AL got on the goal sheet again this week but putting into her own net after helping out in defence to try to clear the ball. 4-2 to A&T.
Golborne fighting a losing battle and conceeded late on to lose the game 5-2.
F/T GGFC 2 v 5 Astley & Tyldsley
On reflection, although GGFC showed good battling and good skills in dribbling and passing in areas, it just didn't work out for them on this occasion.
A & T had some lucky breaks and scoring what were seen as sloppy goals to conceed.......but they all count.
MS showing dominance in defence again, JC and HC winning tackles in midfield and creating good passes as usual. AL helping out in defence and at one point in the game showing some good skill taking on two players and taking the ball round them to pass to create a good chance for JC.
EY....always goal hungry having some good chances that just went away from her.
Player of match awarded to JC
Game: Friendly - 12.02.11
GGFC v Cherrybrook
Steve made a last minute effort to arrange a game after the league game against Town Green was called off.
This was against a newly formed club in Cherrybrook.
It was their first game as a team and so where at a disadvantage from the off.
GGFC have been on fire recently and they certainly didn't go easy on Cherrybrook.
It wasn't long before EY latched onto a pass from AL and the attempt on goal saw the goalkeeper fumble the ball and over the line...1-0 to Golborne.
Pressure continued from JR corners and there where goalmouth scrambles which Cherrybrook managed to clear.
Golbornes 2nd goal came from a shot from EY.....a Cherrybrook player deflecting a wayward shot into her own goal.
EY trying to claim it but on this occasion...I don't think so.....your dad starting to sweat at uping your pocket money this week!
The 3rd goal came from a JR cross....AL finishing it off to make it 3-0
JR got on the score sheet herself to make it 4-0 ....a well deserved goal for her continued efforts.
In the mean time....back in defence, when Cherrybrook did get a break, there was a solid performance from the Golborne defenders....MS showing her dominance as always and PT (with her trademark Wigan Athletic hat) making some good clearances.
Back to the other end.......EY fired home a rocket from a super pass from AL after her battling to win the ball in midfield.....5-0
PT made it 6-0 and what a shot it was.....blink and you would have missed it.
It was good to see Golborne battling for the ball in the midfield and from this creating some good chances.
JW had a relatively quiet game.....I think most of the time she took advantage of the morning sun and did some sunbathing!! But at one point, nearly got caught out with a shot from a Cherrybrook attack but pulled off a great reaction save.
The first half came to an end and GGFC led 6-0 at the break.
In the second half, Golborne continued to press....AL produced a great cross to EY only to see her shoot wide.
JC coming on as a substitute provided a vital pass to EY to score Golbornes seventh......7-0.
EY scoreing again soon after after good work from JC again linking up with AL.......8-0
JC got on the score sheet herself next after a goal mouth scramble, the ball came out to her to hit in the back of the net......9-0.
JC was on fire.....she produced the pass to AL to score and make it 10-0
Cherrybrook still trying hard to get some consellation, nearly scored but only for a knee clearance from JW who was playing as a defender.
Another good effort on goal from JC...saved by the keeper.
At this point in the game, what a choice for Chloe to make.....Who does she nominate as Player of Match?
The goals continue......
EY......11-0
AL.......12-0
A shot from EY at one point hit the post....rebounded and went in off the back of the keeper....13-0
EY continued .....14-0
At this point, goals where being scored ding dong and as you can imagine the Cherrybrook heads where starting to drop.
AL....15-0
and finally JR.....16-0
F/T GGFC 16 v 0 Cherrybrook
Player of Match was awarded to PT
I would like to finish with this note.....
Cherrybrook are a team who have just been formed and have had little experience of match games. There are signs that if they can keep their heads up and take each game as it comes, take with them the experience from each game they play, they will eventually come out good in the end.....keep at it girls!
Well done to the Cherrybrook team and good luck for the future.
Game 10: 06.02.11
GGFC 7 v 0 Aspull Lionesses
Venue: LSV
It was a close fought game the last time these two teams met. GGFC winners by just the one goal.
On this occasion, Golbornes recent hard training seems to have payed off with an emphatic result.
Chloe had a squad of 11 players to select from on the day.Unfortunatly for Aspull, they didn't have a full squad and played the game a player short.
But after watching the game, it by no means takes anything away from the Golborne team who showed great commitment in tackling and passing balls.
It was possibly one of Golbornes best games all season.
The game kicked off with some good breaks early on in the game for Golborne....neat passing from midfield sending players through on goal....such a pleasure to watch.
After good build up work from Golborne and endless pressure, a goal from EY after some good link up from HC and AL to sent Golborne into a 1-0 lead.
From then on, it was the HC show!
HC latched onto an AL pass to make it 2-0.
HC again.....3-0
HC again.....4-0
HC again.....5-0......Hope mum and dad have paid up for the goals scored today!!
Truly an impressive first half from the Golborne team in all areas of the field.
H/T 5-0
The second half saw some changes in the team, with substitues being used.
It started a little quiet compared to the first half but with Golborne holding their own trying to keep that ellusive clean sheet.
Armani produced some great runs from midfield to create some great chances.
It was not until later in the second half that Golborne scored a sixth.....AL finding the back of the net.
EY put the finishing touches onto a great result by adding to her tally after recieving a great ball from MS to make it 7-0
As a spectator it was great to see 100% given by all the team, with attacking players dropping back to help out defensively and defenders moving forward to add another dimension to the team.
H/C was undoubtedly awarded player of match but praise must go out to all who took part today....well done to you all.
Final Score:7-0
Game 9: 23.01.11
Aspul Canaries 5 v 1 GGFC
Venue: Aspull Moor
It was good to return to this venue on what was a much milder day than last time.
The Golborne team was a mixture of new and experienced players and it was good to see the new players working hard to fit in with the team.
The Canaries got the upper hand in a game which they dominated from the off....getting a 3-0 lead at the break.
Chloe experimented with her selection to turn things round but it was only in the last 15-20 minutes that her selection clicked into gear.
Using a 2-2-2 stratergy, created some fine passing moves that resulted in lots of near chances for Golborne in this good spell.....EY capitalising on a good move involving a number of Golborne passes to get on the score sheet for Golborne.
JR as ever working hard in midfield .....which resulted her being Chloes player of match. ( AL getting the Canaries nominated player of match).
So in the end Golborne came back into a game that went away from them in the early stages...something to take with them to their next match next week.
Final score Canaries 5 -1 GGFC
Game 8: 09.01.11
GGFC 0 v 8 Leigh Genesis
Venue: LSV
The first game after the Christmas break proved that Golborne had ate a turkey leg too many over the break!!
They never really pressured Leigh, who proved to be the much better team on the day.
JW,MS,AP,JR,HC,MD,HD,AL & EY where defending through most of the game but there where the odd chances for EY.
At 4-0 at H/T Leigh where always in control, and having the ability to score goals at distance not helping the cause.
AP showed good defensive skills in what was her first game since breaking her leg last year.
Eventual score finished 8-0 and it was back to the drawing board for Golborne.
Player of match AP
Game 7: 7.11.2010 Vulcan- LSV
GGFC 0 v 2 Vulcan
Sorry....no match report this week.
Game 6: 16.10.2010 Town Green - Hawkley Hall, Wigan
Goals from AL, EY and RG secured a third successive win for Golborne and a good performance from the rest of the players ensured a clean sheet.Well done girls!!
Match report by Coach Chloe.
Players:AL,EY,JR,JC,MS,HC,HD,JW,MD,RG
First half.
In defence MS,JC did well to keep JW's clean sheet to stay all the game with the help from MD in the middle keeping the ball clear and passing the ball out to the wings to JR and HC.The passing bewteen players was amazing and kept Town Green running around and on their toes.
After 10 mins Three substitutions.....HD on for JR, AL on for HC, and RG on for MD.
Passing between RG EY HD and AL was perfect when each of them got the ball they all attacked towards the goal. Then with 5 mins to go, an excellent pass from RG to HD who passed it on to AL. She took past the keeper and slotted it into the back of the net...... 1-0
H/T 1-0 to Golborne.
Team talk at half was to keep going and keep pressuring the opposition, H/T subs JR on for JC, HC on for EY and MD on for RG.
Second half started and GGFC where straight on the attack and kept firing shots at the keeper. Unfortunatly for the Town Green keeper, she made an unlucky mistake by slipping the ball out her hands and MD was their with a prefect shot but it just went wide. From the goal kick, Town green were on the attack towards the Golborne goal but was then stopped in their tracks by MS with a fantactic clearance. Ten minutes past and another 3 changes JC on for JR, EY on for HD and RG on AL.
It was a throw in to Golborne.... great throw in from EY to RG who was on her own and cushioned the ball down and struck the ball perfectly into the bottom corner 2-0. Town green took the kick and attacked with excellent passing but the Golborne defence was to strong and cleared the ball away. MD did a nice trick by turning past the player and passed it to HC who saw EY free in the box ....one on one with keeper, EY took the ball round the keeper and smashed it into the back of the net..... 3-0 full time.
Chloe and Ian where so proud of the girls for and excellent game and not giving up the whole game and it is showing that we are now a team with a hat-trick of wins.
Keep it up girls...... really proud!!!
Final Score Town Green 0 v 3 GGFC
Player of Match awarded to HD
Game 5: 10.10.2010
Aspull Lionesses
Aspull Moor Sports Ground.
Match attdance JW/JC/LM/RG/JR/HC/MD/AL/EY
It was a blustery day up on the Aspull Moor football pitch and GGFC had to contend with this against them in the first half.
The game got underway with Golborne applying the early pressure.
Aspull showed no signs of being a team who have had a bad start to the season....they showed hard work in all areas of the field to keep GGFC at bay.
Aspulls hard work was rewarded them with an unstoppable goal to put the home side up 1-0.
GGFC kept up the good work with some fine passing and individual runs from EY.
GGFC's equaliser came from a good move from EY who passed onto AL who was through on goal only to see it come off the keeper.MD was at hand to fire home for her second goal of the season....H/T 1-1.
The game became a midfield battle with GGFC gradually being the stronger team with some excellent work from JR who gave her all by creating goal mouth chances for EY.
JR's reward came when she scored what turned out to be the winning goal from a GGFC throw in......her dad short of doing back flips from the touchline in celebration!!
At 2-1, GGFC had further chances from RG with a long range effort and good game play from HC and JR.
It was another solid performance from LM and JC in defence that put a stop to any Aspull chance.
Final Score Aspull Lionesses 1 v 2 GGFC
Player of Match deservedly awarded to JR.
Game 4: 02.10.2010 Aspull Jnr Canaries - Hawkley Hall, Wigan
Match attendance JW/JC/MS/DS/JR/HC/MD/AL/EY/LM
After last weeks disappointing result at Astley &Tyldsley, GGFC really had to show coach Ian that this was just a one off.....this is exactly what GGFC did.
From the whistle, GGFC pressed Aspull and their persistance payed off with two super goals from AL.The first of which she smashed into the top L/H corner of the goal and the second, an impressive individual display of skill to set herself up to slot home.
The 2nd goal sparked a come back from Aspull and as the first half finished, they finished the stronger side.
H/T GGFC 2 - 0 Aspull Jnr Canaries
Ians half time teamtalk had to calm the estatic mood of GGFC as they were witnessing the makings of a fantastic win.
The 2nd half commenced and Aspull started the 2nd half the way they finished the 1st half.
It took good defensive tackling from JC,LM,MS and DS to keep Aspull at bay.
GGFC had chances in the second half but failed to build on the 2-0 cushion.
Celebrations from an Aspull goal to bring it to 2-1 where short lived when EY scored with a long range cracker to preserve GGFC's two goal cushion at 3-1.
Aspull's persistance reduced the score to 3-2, but GGFC held on to the lead.
To the relief of Ian and the Golborne contingency watching from the sidelines, the ref blew up for F/T.
It was smiles all round from the players who got the season underway with their first win.
If there was a match to promote girls football, then this was it as both teams gave their all to provide a very entertaining match.
It was a fantastic performance from GGFC today and a win that was well deserved.
It was a hard choice to make to pick out a player of match but it was decided that EY did enough to pip her team mates to the honours.
Final Score 3-2.
Game 3: 26.09.2010 Astley & Tyldsley - Gin Pit Sports, Astley
Match attendance RG/JC/MS/DS/JR/HC/AL/EY
This fixture was played on grass as opposed to all weather that the girls are used to and this seemed to take its toll on the GGFC players.
Astley & Tyldsley are a good side and Golborne had it all on to overcome the grass surface and a good team.
MD went close to opening the scoring from a quick break from defence only to narrowly miss.
Pressure from A&T paid off and resulted them taking a TWO goal lead early in the game.
EY had an eye for goal but missed the chance to score....HC also coming close after breaking through the defence from a defence clearence only to see her shot go wide and later getting another chance only to see it miss the target again.
A&T made it 3-0 just before the H/T whistle.
In the second half, GGFC seemed to come alive....EY taking advantage of a poor goal kick only to see her effort come off the post....Ohhhhh!!!!! What a chance!!!
The second half also saw further chances from HC and MD.
Golbornes persistance in the second half paid off when MD, with a tremendous solo effort, put the ball into the net to pull it back to 3-1.
This was the spark that they needed....GGFC started to pile on the pressure....EY with another chance.
The referee brought the game to a close at 3-1.
Coach Ian expressed that he was delighted by the way Golborne played in the 2nd half....we must focus on this effort throughout the game to get a result.
Player of Match award went to JC for her non stop efforts in defence.
Game 2: 18.09.2010 St Helens - Venue:Hawkley Hall
This was only the second time these two teams had met and Golborne knew they where up against a good team.
Ian had changed tactics from the last game which seemed to be work out for him.
The game kicked off with some pressure from the St Helens team coming close to scoreing....hitting the bar from close range and JW pulling off some tremendous saves to keep Golborne in the frame.
AL stayed true to her form by getting in on goal only for the St Helens keeper to pull off a super save.
With good work from the Golbornes defence and keeping St Helens at bay, it was Golborne who eventually broke the deadlock.
Again, AL went through to a one on one with the keeper and this time smashed it into the back of the net....1-0 to Golborne.
St Helens responded with some good pressure and eventually this paid off with an equalizing goal just before H/T.
The second half remained goalless with both teams missing good chances EY and MD narrowly missing.
JW remained stronger than ever in the second half which won her the Player of Match award. Final score 1-1.
Game 1: 12.09.2010 Leigh Genesis -Venue:LSV
This was the third game against Leigh Genesis in two weeks. Two previous friendlies saw Leigh Genesis as game winners so there was much at stake in what was the first league game of the season.
The game started at high tempo with chances at both ends.
Leigh Genesis went in the lead with two fine goals.
At 2-0 down within 10 minutes, things where not looking good for Golborne.Ian had to make changes.
EY had a knock and was replaced by AL. This turned out to be a good move as within 10 minutes AL scored twice to level the scores just before H/T.
The second half was nip and tuck for both teams and it was poised to be a draw untill the last 5 minutes of the game when Leigh Genesis came up with what was the winning goal. A fine performance from EB won her the Player of Match award. Final score 3-2
